Stegman+Associates: Architects is a Boston-based practice specializing in programming, planning and design of college and university facilities. We follow national trends in campus planning and place special emphasis on the integration of design concepts with students’ academic and social development and the institution’s education mission. Working directly with college and universities, as well as in association with or consulting to other architecture and planning firms, our specialized services include strategic planning and master planning, program development, focus groups and interactive design workshops. Full services include design, documentation, and construction administration, interiors and product specifications.

Stegman+Associates: Architects has worked on strategic planning for institutions such as Grinnell College, Amherst College, Union College and Carleton College. Over a ten-year interval the firm worked with Loyola University in Maryland to create two Housing Master plans and acted as advisors and designer for the University for projects built under both plans. Recent projects also include Hostelling International Boston Hostal with Bergmeyer Associates and work at Brown University, Grinnell College, Dickinson College, LaSalle University and RISD. We have worked on numerous surveys and marketing studies, and produced designs for projects as varied as a privatized mixed use project for Temple University and the University of Pennsylvania to renovations for Rounder Records in Burlington, Massachusetts. As a consultant to many lead architects we have contributed planning and design content projects at institutions such as UMass Boston, Boston University, George Mason University, the College of William & Mary, and Iowa State University.

Principal and owner Janet Stegman has over twenty-five years of planning and design experience with academic institutions in building types that include libraries, specialized teaching facilities, and campus centers in addition to her work on more then 30,000 student beds. As a design educator, she is connected to trends in design education and critical importance of student / faculty interactions. Ms. Stegman is a frequent presenter at national venues such as the Society of College and University Planners (SCUP), the Association of College and University Housing Officers (ACUHO), and the National Association for Campus Auxiliary Services (NACAS). She contributes to the ACUHO/NACAS monograph on Renovations and Construction Housing.

Ms. Stegman is a Registered Architect in Massachusetts. She is an Alumnus of the Rhode Island School of Design and serves as a part-time design faculty  in the Department of Interior Architecture.
